She holds a background in ayurveda, meditation, and different therapeutic techniques which she applies in all of her trainings. She has traveled to India multiple times and combines the eastern and the western world philosophies of yoga together in her trainings.

This is the third year that Joan (founder of the School of Yoga) and YogaKula have partnered to offer this professional and international training in Vienna.

Lenka was a scientist at the Medical University of Vienna, where she worked for 10 years. During this time another passion overtook her life and made her to switch to help people more directly - teaching them to move their bodies, to improve their lives using yoga asanas and yogic philosophy. Today she is a full time yoga teacher at yogakula and teaches classes on a weekly basis. Lenka has just graduated from the YogaKula's 300 Hour Teacher Training.

About the training

This foundational training will help you deepen your understanding of philosophy, anatomy, subtle body, and chanting. Each day there will be a long asana practice incorporating meditation and pranayama, focused around the theme of the day. In the afternoons, we will study the benefits and purpose of each yoga posture in depth. We will learn how to read bodies and give safe effective hands-on adjustments and how to use the props, which helps you understand how to make your teachings accessible to all levels and all types of bodies.

We will apply anatomy and to help understand the effects of the postures and how to sequence them together to create an effective class. Dive into philosophy, the subtle body, and develop a Pranayama and Restorative practice that students can incorporate into their lives. By the end, you will be able to teach a short class and prepare a safe and effective sequence.

This training aligns with the authentic traditions as instructed by Krishnamacharya and his students Sri K. Patthabi Jois and B.K.S. Iyengar. We will explore the details of alignments blended in with the dynamic breath-based movements learning to create a vinyasa flow class that is accessible to everyone!

Joan Hyman

Originally from Philadelphia, Joan earned her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Temple University. Shortly after finishing college, she moved to New York City to pursue a professional dance career, and it was there that she discovered yoga. Soon after, she relocated to Santa Monica, California, where she completed the YogaWorks Teacher Training with the renowned Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford in 2002, followed by further study with Annie Carpenter, who is known for her SmartFlow® system of highly intelligent sequencing. Joan received her YogaWorks Certification in 2006 then took her first trip to Mysore, India to study with the beloved Sri K. Pattihbi Jois and his grandson Sharath Rangaswamy. Since then, she has traveled extensively throughout India and has been blessed to study with world-renowned teachers in far-off places where she has enjoyed unplugging from the Western way of living, fully embracing the yogic lifestyle and immersing herself in her practices.

Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings in the US. More and more yoga studios across the country are requiring their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance, either at the 200-Hour or 500-Hour level. Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently, there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.

What is the 200-hour attendance and class make-up policy?

Yoga Alliance requires that you complete all 200 hours of the teacher training; however, we understand that sometimes conflicts come up, and we have developed the make-up policy listed below.

Attendance Policy
You can miss a maximum of 27 training hours, which equals to 4 training daa, all of which are due to be made up by the last day of your training. If you miss more than 27 hours or do not complete your make-up hours by the end of the training, you will receive a not passing status and will be required to pay in full to retake the training. At the end of each day, if you missed class, your teacher will ask you to write an essay about the days content. There are two make-up options listed for you below.

Option 1: Zoom Recording & Written Assignment
Please let us know you will be missing a training day, that way we will make sure to record the day. You may watch the recorded video of the missed Zoom session within 7 days and return the following written assignment for each day missed: A brief outline of the material covered & your 3-5 biggest takeaways from the content covered.

Please be aware that videos will only be stored in your Training’s Zoom account for 7 days before being deleted, so do not delay!

Option 2: Private Session with your Trainer
Schedule a private session with your trainer at some point during the program. The cost of a private session ranges around 100 Euros per hour, paid directly to your trainer. After a week when the recorded video is no longer available, your only option will be to complete your missed time via a paid private.

1-hour private = up to 4 hours of missed time
2-hour private = up to 8 hours of missed time
3-hour private = up to 12 hours of missed time
4-hour private = up to 16 hours of missed time

Please note: Only two sessions of private instruction are allowed and are subject to trainer availability. The remainder of your missed time will need to be made up by watching the Zoom recordings.

If you miss more than 27 hours: You will receive a not passing status and will be required to pay in full to retake the training.

TARDINESS AND LEAVING EARLY
In order to receive credit for attending the day, you must arrive on time and stay present for the full duration of the day. There may be times when you have to arrive late or leave early, and you are allotted two 10-minute grace periods over the course of the training. When possible, please notify your training team in advance. If you are late or leave early more than twice, on the third time, you will not receive credit for that day and you will need to make up the day according to the make up policy.

What happens after the training?

Get certified and share your passion right away! Upon completion of all requirements of the course, you will be a yoga alliance certified Yoga instructor! You can teach online and in-person, start sending out your resume to potential studios, or incorporate yoga classes into the studios you’re currently teaching at.
