Yoga And Scoliosis

  • 25.01.25

Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine. Most common symptoms are lower back pain and stiffness. It’s important to say it upfront: Yoga cannot heal or cure scoliosis.

Regular yoga practice can strengthen your core and back muscles and support you spinal problems. It can relieve pain and tension. Steady, intentional breathing during yoga practice brings oxygen to the muscles and can help reduce stress, which can also help reduce pain.

But for a yoga practice to be helpful, both students with scoliosis and their teachers need to understand the condition and its implications when choosing and approaching poses.

This special class is about exploring limitations scoliosis expose and working with them towards a safer yoga practice. Learning to build strength and support mobility, in horizontal, vertical or sagittal plane, will be the main focus of this session.

Do not expect from yoga to “correct” your scoliosis. Yoga cannot heal scoliosis. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing.
