Chad Hamrin about his yoga journey

“...so it was about 1973 that I had my first mystical and or magical insight into the beginning of my journey in the study and practicing teaching of yoga. Prior to that I was deeply involved in martial arts from 1967. The two practices seem to be in opposition yet as you went deeper more into the eastern studies you could see where they actually had a lot in common.

It was actually fortunate that YOGA wasn’t quite so popular in this country at that time so I had to be pretty resourceful to find ways just to study. But eventually YOGA took off and I wound up teaching at the center for YOGA in Los Angeles and was there for 11 years and in that time we brought every teacher imaginable to come and teach us and that study went on for decades. Mostly the Iyengar system, as well many other systems and then around the early 80s I got into studying healing body work, energy work and many many systems that I found educational. So what I present is decades of steady practice teaching and I have come up with what I called foundational work.

It’s the work that we hear as beginners, but don’t understand. It’s the work that we forget as intermediate students and need to be reminded of, and it opens the door once again to a path of discovery, an insightful approach to the rediscovering of YOGA. During that time I had the honor of teaching many many students of YOGA who have become very gifted in their own right as teachers. Now I’m a senior teacher both in years and experience and I’m semi retired, but I still enjoy sharing what I’ve experienced and so I do some traveling and try to share what I’ve learned from my own journey."
